On Press Freedom Day, the Association of Foreign Press Correspondents hosted an online discussion about the current state of press freedom in the U.S. and around the globe with:

Bill Gentile: Bill Gentile is an independent, national Emmy Award-winning journalist and documentary filmmaker teaching at American University (AU) in Washington, DC.

Sissel McCarthy: Sissel McCarthy is an award-winning international business journalist as well as a Distinguished Lecturer and Director of the Journalism Program at Hunter College.

Thomas O. Melia: Thomas O. Melia is Washington Director at PEN America. Prior to joining PEN America, he served in the Obama Administration as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor, responsible for Europe and Eurasia, south and central Asia, and the Middle East, and as Assistant Administrator for Europe and Eurasia in the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) until January 2017.

Frank Smyth: Frank Smyth is an independent, award-winning investigative journalist specializing in armed conflicts, organized crime and human rights overseas, and on the gun movement and its influence at home. He is a former arms trafficking investigator for Human Rights Watch breaking the role of France in arming Rwanda before its genocide.

Susan Modaress Tehrani: Susan Modaress Tehrani is the Vice President of the Association of Foreign Correspondents and a New York-based broadcast and print journalist. She's currently a Diplomatic Correspondent at the United Nations.

Bricio Segovia: Bricio Segovia is an award-winning international news anchor and reporter. He currently serves as the White House Correspondent for the Spanish service of the international broadcaster Voice of America (VOA). He is a member of the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA).

Thanos Dimadis: Thanos Dimadis is the President of the Association of Foreign Correspondents. He had been a foreign correspondent covering the Eurozone financial crisis from Washington, D.C. and Brussels, Belgium. He is a book author and a distinguished Knight-Bagehot Fellow from Columbia Journalism School.
