Tom Watkins is the Washington bureau chief for The National, a UAE-based newspaper that recently expanded to the US. He runs a team of 12 journalists covering all things America, with a focus on foreign policy and US politics.
Prior to his current role, Tom worked at Agence France-Presse for 10 years, where he was the South Asia bureau chief based in Afghanistan and Pakistan. He also covered the Pentagon for four years. He has reported from more than 30 countries and worked in Los Angeles for several years for The Associated Press, primarily covering law enforcement. Originally from England, Tom has an MA from Goldsmiths University in London.
